You've Been Given the Gift of Life, Give it Back!

Thank you for visiting my blog. It documents my amazing journey from pre to post double lung transplant. I am a 37 year old mother and wife with Cystic Fibrosis who has been more greatly blessed than I could ever imagine possible!

It has been a bumpy ride, but God has given me strength, love, friendship, and, FINALLY, health. My prayers have been answered, my miracle was granted, and I want to share the joy of my new life with you.

NANCY'S WEARING HER GLASSES AGAIN

This morning Nancy looks better...last night she seemed very uncomfortable and was experiencing a lot of pain so I hated to have to leave her.  Today she had on her glasses for the first time, her handwriting was more legible, and her sweating has subsided.  The surgeon came in while Ann and I were there and explained that it can take up to two weeks for the new lungs to be fully functional, and if she continues to need the assistance of a ventilator after a few more days they will make an insertion through her trachea allowing for her to have the tubes removed from her mouth.  I know this will be welcomed by Nancy as it has to be terribly uncomfortable constantly having all these tubes in her mouth.

Overall, the surgeon seemed to indicate things are going well and we are going to have to be patient.  He was also able to prescribe a different pain medication to assist with lessening her pain level.   Before I left her with Scott she indicated to me that the new meds were helping.  She wanted pictures taken of her mother and her, Scott and her, and me and her, she wants a pictorial diary of her progress and I'm the chosen photographer.  This is one time I DON'T envy my job, but I'm following her orders as best I can.  You'd have to know Nancy to understand how meticulous she is about details...one of the many reasons we all love her so much!

That's it for now.  Will post again as I have new information regarding her progress.  She was thrilled when I reminded her that her cousin Bridgette's quads birthday was on December 10th,  their 6th birthday!  More reason for the Delaney family to celebrate each December 10th, as will we all!  Thank you, Bridgette, for reminding us and sharing your family's joy and celebration with Nancy!

Yeah for Nancy! She is continuing to make progress which is good. I hope the pain begins to lessen for her and she is able to be a little bit more comfortable each and every day!

Blake took a picture of Nancy and Hannah to school today for his sharing. He wants to show all of his class who Nancy is and what a miracle this is. He is more convinced than ever that Santa received his letter and that Santa listened to his wishes!

We love you all. Big hugs to the Carruth and Matthews families. We are all so blessed to know Nancy and even more blessed that we can share in this journey with you all.

We love you Vance, Ann, Scott, and Hannah!

Love,

Debbie

Nancy is a very strong woman. I'm so happy for all of you! I'm so glad that everything is going so well. Although, I can't help but feel that my dad(Merle),that just passed away, is her guardian angel and helped get those lungs for her. They shared a common bond, and thought of her often and always wanted to know her progress. I know that he is in heaven right now cheering her on and is in her corner. I know that he is looking out for her for he knew how much Nancy means to me. Please know that you all are in my prayers, and I will pray for a speedy recovery. And tell Nancy Happy Birthday! I keep being reminded of Frosty the Snowman when that magical hat was placed on his head. He would exclaim Happy Birthday! Well, those new lungs are the same. They are a magical gift and brought new life. So, Nancy Matthews, Dec. 10th is your new birthday in some ways. Happy Birthday! God Bless you all!

Hi! Thanks for all these updates and letting me know how Nancy has been all these years. I went to high school with her in Jackson Hole and she was one of the sweetest people I knew--she was always nice to me, which I can't say for most high schoolers.

What an incredible woman she is now!! I'm amazed and honored to hear her story. I can see that life is only going to get better for her now, she's one tough lady.

Send her my love!

So glad the sweating has subsided and the new pain meds are helping. Hope she can get the tubes out too!
That is so awesome about Blake's letter to Santa being answered. He must be soooo honored, Deb. Like Nancy said, I'm sure God helped Santa out with that request, which is exactly what God does!
We're so happy to hear the recovery is coming along. Slow but steady, that's good.
Love and prayers continue to go out to all of you,
Jennifer

The news continues to be good, and we are so grateful to God, and so glad that Dad Vance is able to keep up the posts so we can all keep up with Nancy's progress.

We wonder if Hannah's nightmares are now a thing of the past, with Mommy getting her new lungs and getting healthier every day?

Please give our love and best wishes to Nancy, Hannah, Scott, and to each other, Vance!
